Model Living Types

Supported Model Living

Supported Living consists of individually tailored supports that enable a person to live in his or her own home.

Ordinarily, two people with special needs live together in a home they own, rent, or lease with the assistance of a residential companion provided by Progress.

The home is the responsibility of the individual and his or her legal representative. Supported Living offers the highest degree of personal choice, as individuals have a say in their housemates, their support staff, the home they select and how it is to be decorated and furnished.

For others who need less supervision or assistance, rather than a residential companion, shift staff assists as needed, perhaps for a few hours a day or weekly basis.

Individuals may receive support in activities like bathing, paying bills, and going to the grocery store.

Family Model Living

With the Family Model Residential arrangement, individuals with special needs (no more than two) live in the home of the family providing services. This program was formerly referred to as Adult Foster Care.

Families that provide these services in their home are thoroughly screened and complete the same extensive training as all Progress employees. Progress provides ongoing oversight of Family Model homes. This residential option enables a person to enjoy typical family life. The individual(s) participate in all functions and activities as an integral member of the family. Many of these relationships are long lasting.

NOTE: You do not have to choose the same agency to provide Day and Residential Services.
